as rough beasts romp · & rummage in flowerbeds

so much work · went into this downfall
what hustle of hands · to unhelm the republic

was precious prize once · to mug & dismantle
was a hypocrite giant · of just comeuppance

but also island · of eager venture
& a lot believed · in the good life promised

thousands of days · & for much of it i delved
array of riches · not denied to me

while i call fools fools · from the festering sidelines
